Our History

NashBio (Nashville Biosciences, LLC) was founded in 2018 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).

Our co-founder and CEO, Leeland Ekstrom, PhD, joined Vanderbilt from a career in management consulting to help write the business plan that became NashBio. As he describes it: “Our mission is to help make complex healthcare data easy to use, particularly in that space of genomics and real-world data… NashBio was created to be the portal to help take those data assets out to the broader life sciences ecosystem.”

Our Vision

Our dataset now spans 4.1 million de-identified subjects, more than 350,000 DNA samples — including 250,000 whole genomes sequenced through the Alliance for Genomic Discovery — and an average of seven years of longitudinal clinical data. Our AI-ready, multimodal real-world data is curated from longitudinal EHRs and is validated by a 20-year legacy with more than 700 research publications.
